The Scientific Program Committee for NAALT 2018 is proud to announce that Professor Chukuka S. Enwemeka will be the key note speaker on August 18, 2018 at the NAALT 2018 National Conference at the historic Detroit Marriott Hotel. This year’s forum will focus on “Photobiomodulation – Drug Free Management of Pain”.
Professor Enwemeka is Provost and Sr. Vice President for academic affairs, San Diego State University, San Diego, California. Dr. Enwemeka joined San Diego State University in July 2014 following a five (5) year tenure as distinguished Professor and Dean of the College of Health Sciences, University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (August 2009 to June 2014), and more than six (6) years as Professor and Dean of the School of Health Professions, New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury, New York (March 2003 to July 2009). Professor Enwemeka additionally has served as Professor at the University of Kansas, University of Miami, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Dr. Enwemeka earned his PhD from New York University and is a Fellow of both the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. Professor Enwemeka served as President of the World Association for Laser Therapy (WALT) from 1998 to 2000. Professor Enwemeka also served as Founder and Pioneer Chairman of the North American Association of Laser Therapy from 2000 to 2006. Professor Enwemeka is one of the foremost authorities of photobiomodulation.
Professor Enwemeka’s academic engagements include Visiting Professorships; invited lectures; conference presentations and leadership of funded research projects has taken him to 39 countries on 5 continents. Moreover, he has worked with dozens of colleagues to develop new academic programs, including formal degree programs in ABU/Dhabi, Bahrain, Brazil, Georgia, Japan and Jordan. Dr. Enwemeka has served as an academic program reviewer, international advisor and consultant to universities and government agencies in Australia, Hong Kong and South Africa.
NAALT 2018 Scientific Committee is excited to welcome Dr. Enwemeka to the annual NAALT 2018 Scientific meeting in Detroit Michigan.
Dr. Enwemeka is one of the foremost authorities in the use of lasers and monochromatic light for therapeutic purposes. He was the first to show that red and near infrared light emitted by lasers and monochromatic LED’s promotes collagen polymerization and alignment. Additionally, he and his team have demonstrated that certain wavelengths of LED blue light kill the deadly Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) suggesting that blue light is a viable alternative to antibiotics.
Dr. Enwemeka has authored more than 90 original research papers, monographs and book chapters and has secured millions of dollars in grant funding. It is with honor that the Scientific Committee of NAALT 2018 welcomes Professor Enwemeka to the faculty of our annual national scientific meeting.
