The NAALT 2018 Scientific Committee welcomes Professor Sandeep Gopalakrishnan, PhD, College of Nursing, University of Wisconsin as a Faculty Member for the upcoming NAALT 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting.
Dr. Gopalakrishnan is Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Gopalakrishnan teaches pathophysiology for undergraduate and graduate students and directs the Bio Behavioral Research Laboratory. Dr. Gopalakrishnan is also an active member of the McPherson Eye Research Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Prior to joining University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Gopalakrishnan was a post doctorate Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. David Harder at the Cardiovascular Center, Medical College of Wisconsin where his research focused on identifying the role of autoregulation in cerebral blood flow. For the doctor research at UWM, Dr. Gopalakrishnan investigated the use of near infrared photons in the treatment of retinal injury, retinal degenerative disease and neurodegenerative disease under the mentorship of Professor Janice Eells.
Dr. Gopalakrishnan in collaboration with other investigators has demonstrated the mechanisms of action involved in the application of near infrared photobiomodulation in the treatment or retinal injury, retinal degenerative disease and neurodegenerative disease. Investigations and clinical studies of diabetes mellitus, Parkinson’s Disease and multiple sclerosis have demonstrated improved clinical outcome and cytoprotective effects of PBM. Based on the ability of near infrared light PBM to modulate numerous cellular functions seen in the above mentioned disease models. Dr. Gopalakrishnan plans studies to demonstrate the successful application of near infrared light to diabetic wounds and to acute and chronic pain in patients with a broad range of medical conditions.
The NAALT Scientific Committee welcomes Dr. Gopalakrishnan to the faculty of the annual 2018 NAALT conference.
