Raymond J. Lanzafame M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.S. Dr Raymond J. Lanzafame graduated from Cornell University in 1974, and received his M.D. from George Washington University in 1978, and an MBA from the William E. Simon School of the University of Rochester in 1999. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Laser Surgery. He is a member of 27 organizations including: The American College of Physician Executives, Society of University Surgeons, SAGES, Central Surgical Association, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, and The Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons. He is Editor-in-Chief of Photomedicine And Laser Surgery, and is on the Editorial Boards of General Surgery News, Journal of Laparoendoscopic Surgery, Journal of the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, Lasers In Medical Science, and serves as a Referee for Surgical Endoscopy, and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, and Consulting Editor of the Biomedical Optics Newsletter. He is past president of the Upstate Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He has testified before FDA hearings on device regulation, participated in NYS DOH and national panels on lasers and laser safety (ANSI Z136.3, 1996), credentialing issues, and review for laparoscopic surgery, and managed care. He has been appointed as a consultant to the General and Plastic Surgery Devices and other panels of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health. He has performed case reviews for NYS OPMC and medicolegal consulting. He serves as a consultant for various biomedical technology companies and has received more that $3 million in grants and equipment. His publications include over 180 scientific papers and 3 textbooks. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including listings in 8 Who’s Who publications. He has served as the Director of the Rochester General Hospital Laser Center from 1983 to 2005. He served as Young Surgeon Representative of the Upstate Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (1992), and was awarded the Ellet Drake Lectureship Award (1999) by the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery for outstanding contributions to teaching and innovation. Dr. Lanzafame received the Presidential Citation Award from the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (2000) and the Society’s William B. Mark Award in 2001. He currently serves as the Director of Continuing Medical Education for ASLMS. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons and also serves as president-elect. Dr. Lanzafame is the Vice President for Medical Affairs at Lakeside Memorial Hospital in Brockport, New York. Dr. Lanzafame is an active clinical surgeon, who is active on numerous RGH committees and the RGH Foundation Board of Directors, in addition to active participation in the Monroe County Medical Society’s Community Internship and Scholarship Committees and its Board of Directors. |
